YOGA for your AYURVEDIC DOSHA
3 Hour Online Workshop
Sunday 13th September, 2020
10.00am – 1.00pm
Yoga for your Ayurvedic Dosha
In this Yoga Workshop, we will be exploring how our constitution can have an impact on the yoga practice that we do.
Have you ever wondered why you prefer some types of yoga practice more than others? Do ‘Sun Salutes’ leave you exhausted? Does Yin Yoga make you restless? Does Kapalabhati make you agitated?
You may be practising the wrong yoga for your constitution.
We will look at the various styles and practices of Yoga in the light of understanding our personal Doshas. This understanding will hopefully lead us towards developing the practice that is perfect for our individual Dosha.
To attend this Workshop, it is important that you know what your Dosha is.
See below for details of how to discover your Dosha.
Veda = Science/knowledge Ayur = Life
Ayurveda is often called the ‘Sister Science’ to Yoga. It was developed in India thousands of years before modern medical science, and is still used today as a holistic well-being modality. Diet and lifestyle are fundamental to the ayurvedic healing process – yoga and meditation are also included as part of any treatment.
Ayurveda is based on the principle of constitution – each individual will be a combination of 3 main elements or DOSHAs:
- VATA (air and ether)
- PITTA (fire and water)
- KAPHA (earth and water)
We all have various degrees of each dosha in our constitution, but one or two will be dominant. Our Dosha will determine our physical and personality traits, our preferences, our thought processes and how we function in the world.
This workshop will include all the elements of yoga, but looking at them from the perspective of our individual dosha.
- Vinyasa/Flowing Sequences
- Yin Yoga
- Yoga Nidra (Deep Relaxation)
Comprehensive 18 page PDF handouts to accompany the session.
HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR DOSHA
It is useful to do a couple of tests, as not all the questions are the same. Choose from a selection below. You will need to do each test twice, based on different criteria.
You will want to determine your prakriti – your lifelong constitution and general underlying nature :
ANSWER QUESTIONS BASED ON YOUR LIFELONG CHARACTERISTICS.
And also your vikriti – your current imbalances:
ANSWER QUESTIONS BASED ON YOUR CURRENT EXPERIENCES.
Your vikriti is the dosha imbalance that we will be working with during the workshop.
