Winter Solstice 2023

This year, Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere takes place on Friday 22nd December at 3.27am, and we are blessed to be celebrating it just a few hours later in our Solstice Evening. The Solstice in the latter months of the year is when the sun is at its most southerly position. For us here in the Northern Hemisphere, the sun rises later and sets earlier than any other day of the year. It hangs low and weak in the sky during the brief daylight hours, barely rising above the treeline, and daytime shadows are at their longest.

This is the time of the shortest day, and the longest night of the year. A time for resting. For renewing. For retreating. A time for celebration also, welcoming the return of the light as the sun makes it’s way back northwards and we start the journey back towards summer, towards the light and towards the sun.

I’m really happy to be back in the warm, cosy space of Tutbury Village Hall, where we have enjoyed many workshops over the year.

Crisis at Christmas Charity

The Winter Solstice Workshop has, over the years, become an opportunity for me to support one of my favourite charities. This year I will again be donating 15% of the proceeds from this event (and rounding it up) to the charity Crisis at Christmas.

This charity brings food, shelter, companionship, training and above all, hope, to those who need it most. If you can’t make the workshop, but would like to donate, please get in touch and I will add your contribution to our offering.

This popular workshop is usually completely sold out. Book early to secure your space!

Winter Solstice Yoga Evening 2023
Cultivating Peace

 Cultivating Peace within Ourself

Our practice of yin yoga and restorative asana, pranayama and meditation will take us deep into the stillness of the shortest day and the longest night. Nature is fully at rest during this period, and our practice will reflect the beauty of stillness. When we become still in mind and body, peace shines forth.

Cultivating a Sacred Space

Using the ancient yogic art of Vastu, we will chant our blessings into all the directions to create our sacred space.

Cultivating Peaceful Rest

Indulge in deep relaxation in an extended Yoga Nidra. Lie back, wrap up and snuggle down for a twinkly, sumptuous, nurturing, restful and peaceful experience.

Radiating Peace

We will chant the Shanti Path – the traditional Mantra for Peace – to radiate healing vibrations around the globe.

Celebrating the Return of the Light

Chanting the Surya Bija Mantras (seed sounds to awaken the fire of the sun) we will celebrate the return of the sun into our lives.
